Water Polo Team Claims District Title

Rams top forest hills and east kentwood to claim district crown

HUDSONVILLE - The Rams water polo team left no doubt as to who had the best team in their District, with decisive wins over Forest Hills and East Kentwood to claim the title of West Region District 2 Champions this weekend.

On Friday, May 10, the Rams topped Forest Hills in an 11-3 romp in their first game. Rockford was led by an impressive defensive outing by Sabrina Boss and Kaleigh Blockland, who each tallied four steals in the game. Boss also tossed in two goals to add to the Ram cause. Showing depth, Rockford enjoyed goals by six players on the team. Masy Folcik’s four goals led the team on offense, with Rylee Davis tossing in two and also stealing two. Also adding to the Ram offensive onslaught were Blockland, Rachel Gamm and Grace Bargwell scoring a goal apiece. Elise Stein and Gamm also added a steal for the Rams. Keeper Jillian Snyman tallied eight saves in goal.

The East Kentwood game was a lot closer, with the Rams claiming the 5-2 victory. Rockford had a slim 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter but opened it up at the end of the half, enjoying a 3-0 lead. It took until for fourth quarter for the Falcons to catch their breath, tallying two goals, but the Rams answered with two of their own to close the game with a 5-2 victory.

The Rams enjoyed another great defensive game, with Boss and Folcik registering three steals apiece, and Blockland and Davis adding two each. Gamm, Stein and Paige Beers also added a steal. Snyman tallied eight steals for the game. Blockland earned the first goal of the game for the Rams in the first quarter, with Folcik and Beers scoring in the second quarter. Boss and Blockland each notched a goal in the second half to help earn the Ram win.

The Rams will now compete in the West Region Championships at East Kentwood, May 17-18. They will face off against Grandville in Game 1, scheduled for 4 p.m.
