Lady Rams Claim Crown at the MITCA Team State Finals

LANSING – The Rams girls track & field team competed in the MITCA Team State Finals, Saturday, May 25, and came home with a first-place trophy to continue their impressive season. Each team was allowed three athletes to compete in each event. The Rams toed the line against 14 other teams and was able to amass 1819.5 points to claim the crown. East Kentwood placed second with 1508 points, Salem claimed third with 1308.5, Macomb Dakota landed fourth with 1238, and Lowell rounded out the top five with 1213.5 points.

The Rams showed incredible depth, sweeping all four relay events. Taylor Korytkowski claimed firsts in both the 200m and 400m dashes, Ericka VanderLende also claimed duo championships, in the 1600m and 3200m runs and Morgan Vargo had a huge day in the field events, landing first in the long jump and the pole vault, with a PR of 11-00 in the vault. Jillian Roney claimed the title in the 300m hurdles.

The Rams now prepare for the MHSAA D1 State Track & Field Finals, Saturday, June 1. The event takes place at East Kentwood High School.
