The Rams boys golf team took a trip to Frankenmuth to compete in the MHSAA D1 Boys Golf State Finals, Saturday, June 8. The best of the best faced off against each other and The Fortress for their final rounds of the season. The Rams put together two solid days of competition, carding a total of 621, good enough for an impressive third-place finish to end a successful season that featured an OK Red Conference title and the MHSAA Regional Title.
Lake Orion started out on fire on the first day of play, carding a 294 and an insurmountable lead. They continued with a solid 312 on the second day to total an impressive 606 to earn the title of State Champion. Grosse Pointe South followed with a 617 and Rockford placed third with a 621. Rounding out the top five, were Detroit Catholic Central with a 623 and Hartland, who shot a 624.
The Rams were sitting in fifth place after Day One, carding a 313 as a team. Kevin Healy led the Rams on the course the first day with a 75, and was closely followed by Nathan Barton, who shot a 76. Teammates Oliver Haeberle (79), CJ Stephan (83) and Nick Rupert (84). The Rams had an even better day on Day Two, carding a 308 as a team, dropping five shots from their score from the previous day. Healy led the team, again, carding a 74., with CJ Stephan shooting a 76 to help pace the Rams.
Healy earned All-State honors with his performance, placing 8th as an individual with his total of 149 for the State Finals.
“Overall, the kids played well, and we are happy with the third-place finish,” shares head coach Joel Siegel. “Kevin played great, taking eighth place individually, and we are excited to watch him continue his golfing career as a Wolverine.”
