Rockford Steamrolls Holland 15-0

ROCKFORD – The Rockford Little League 11U All-Star team kicked off their 2019 campaign with a win over Holland in their first District 9 Pool B game, Monday, July 8. It didn’t take long for Rockford to let the competition know they are a united front and a force to be reckoned with on the diamond. The team lit up the scoreboard with an incredible 13 runs in the first inning, seeing almost the entire line up come up to the plate twice. Rockford claimed the game by a 15-0 score in a 3-inning mercy-shortened rout that was played at East Rockford Middle School.

Rockford went 8-for-18 at the plate. Cole Mason racked up 5 RBI for the game and went 2-for-3, Drew Ramm went 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI. A true team effort, Chase Pitsch, Breckton Meeuwsen, Quinn Geshel, and Grahm Beickman each tallied a hit. Eli Johnson, Mason Plain and Geshel drew two walks apiece and Nehemiah Kusreau earned first on a hit-by-pitch to help the offensive cause.

Pitching duties were shared by three Rams, to earn the no-hitter. Together, the hurlers combined to throw only 44 pitches to take care of business on the mound. Beickman started for Rockford, walking one and striking out two. Ramm came on in the second inning and had an identical outing. Carter VanderTuig then threw the final inning and had no walks and fanned three.

The team will now take on Southern East, Tuesday, July 9 at their field at 6 p.m. Southern East topped Caledonia by a 3-0 score to win the previous night.
