Rams Girls Cross Team Competes in OK Red Jamboree #2

Varsity claims 3rd, and JV places 1st

KENTWOOD – The RHS girls cross country teams took a trip to East Kentwood High School, Wednesday, Oct. 9, to compete in the second OK Red Jamboree of the season. The Rams varsity team accumulated enough points to claim third place, and the JV team claimed first in their division.

Caledonia claimed the varsity race with 38 points, followed by West Ottawa with 48. Rockford rounded out the top three with 64. The rest of the field finished as follows: Hudsonville 86, Grand Haven 113, East Kentwood 184, and Grandville 188.

The Rams ran in a pack, finishing 10-12 on the course. Sophomore Bailey Ewen paced the Rams, placing 10th and clocking in at 20:55.4. Freshmen Emma Flanders and Jessica Harney placed 11th and 12th, respectively, with time of 20:57.5 and 20:58.3. Anna Tracey landed 13th with a time of 21:06.3. Junior Elise VanStensel followed closely, landing 18th with a time of 21:29.2 and Hailey Fike was on her heels in 19th with a time of 21:31.5. Also running for the Rams were Nora Hoekert in 29th place with a time of 21:57.7, and Mara Sweeney in 50th with a time of 23:12.9.

The JV team took the course by storm and landed first place in their division, landing four of the top five places. Rockford tallied 21 points for the crown. Caledonia landed second with 44 and Grand Haven rounded out the top three with 86. The final four positions were Hudsonville 131, Grandville 149, East Kentwood 152, and West Ottawa 160.

Freshman Natalie Allshouse led the Rams, earning first with a time of 22:32.7. Sophomore Lily Weirich placed third with a time of 23:16.1, freshman Rylee Zandstra placed fourth with a time of 23:17.9, and sophomore Grace Flanders placed fifth, clocking in at 23:27.6. Lauren Kellner rounded out the top five Ram times landing eighth with a time of 23:41.9. Also placing for Rockford were Sophia Ullery in 11th with a time of 23:48.7, and Scarlet Beachy placed 12th with a time of 23:58.6. Allison Everhart-Deckard placed 14th with a time of 24:00.6, Emily Danks placed 21st with a time of 24:17.8, Sylvia Sandman placed 40th, clocking in at 25:05.2, and Anna Dudka placed 55th with a time of 26:00.3. Also earning spots for the Rams were Kendall Weiss (66), Evelyn Grimm (70), Ruth Kauffman (71), Katherine Scott (73), Jordan Duvall (75), Samantha Hathaway (76).

The Rams will now prepare for the Kent Ottawa County Meet, which takes place Saturday, Oct. 12.
