GRAND RAPIDS – The members of the Rams girls cross country team had impressive performances, Saturday, Oct. 12, to claim the title of the Ottawa Kent County Meet. Three Rams earned places in the top eight, and two other landed in the top 20 to give the Rams an edge over the 13 other teams in the event.
Rockford tallied 47 points to claim first, and Byron Center placed second with 65, and Forest Hills tallied 89 to round out the top three. Covenant Christian placed fourth with 126 and OK Red opponent East Kentwood earned fifth with 177.
Ram sophomore Bailey Ewen paced the Rams, placing fourth out of 121 runners, crossing the line at 20:01.0. Freshmen Emma flanders and Jessica Harney placed seventh and eighth with times of 20:12.0 and 20:14.3, respectively. Sophomore Anna Tracey followed closely in time, placing 13th, clocking in at 20:36.3. Junior Elise VanStensel rounded out the top five with a time of 20:45.3, for a 15th-place finish.
Also working hard for the Rams were: Nora Hoekert (27), Natalie Allshouse (34), Lily Weirich (57), and Mara Sweeney (73).
The Rams will now prepare for the OK Red Conference Meet. It will take place at Riverside Park, Thursday, Oct. 17.
