GRAND RAPIDS – The RHS varsity girls cross country team had a good showing at the OK Red Conference Championships, Thursday, Oct. 17, competing on the course at Riverside Park. In September, the Rams placed third in the OK Red Jamboree #1, and then landed third in Jamboree #2 in early October, with West Ottawa and Caledonia placing 1-2 in both of those meets with just 10 points between them in both events. In the conference meet, the Rams eclipsed Caledonia by eight points to claim second.
West Ottawa placed first with 48 points, just nosing the Rams out by four points. Caledonia rounded out the top three with 60 points. Hudsonville landed fourth with 81, and Grand Haven 125, East Kentwood 163 and Grandville 177, followed.
The Rams were led by sophomore Bailey Ewen, who landed fourth with a time of 19:43.6. Emma Flanders and Jessica Harney followed in sixth and seventh with times of 19:58.7 and 20:00.4, respectively. Anna Tracey placed 16th with a time of 20:24.8, and Lexie Allshouse rounded out the top five for the Rams, placing 19th and clocking in at 20:35.1. Elise VanStensel placed 24th with a time of 20:48.5, and Elizabeth Bennett placed 43rd at 21:59.5.
The Rams will now warm up for the MHSAA Regional Championships, which take place in beautiful Benzie, Saturday, Oct. 26.
