Rams Down Grandville in Pool

Rams move to 4-0 in OK Red

ROCKFORD – The Rams swim & dive team preserved their undefeated conference record by topping the Grandville Bulldogs in a thriller, Thursday, Oct. 17. The Rams were able to claim the 182-124 victory through grit and determination in the pool. The Rams claimed two of the three relays and eight of the nine individual events to earn the big “W.” Sara Kraus (2), Masy Folcik (2), Ashley Lund (2), Jessica Axtman (1) Rachel Gamm (1) all claimed firsts in the individual events.

The Rams kicked off the meet in a big way, landing first in the 200 Medley Relay, with Rachel Gamm, Alex Fisher, Josie Geers and Ashley Lund combining for a time of 1:55.44. Rockford then showed a 1-2-3 punch in the 200 Freestyle with Kraus (1:59.61), Oliver Harmsen (2:05.19) and Isabelle Glover (2:08.53) claiming the top three positions. Sophia Spahr landed sixth for the Rams to earn points in the event, too. Rockford went 1-2 in the 200 IM, with Folcik landing first at 2:12.80 and Fisher placing second at 2:25.97. Marie Prawdzik placed fifth and Mackenzie Rickerd earned seventh for the Rams. Rockford continued their dominance in the pool in the 50 Freestyle with Lund touching the wall first at 24.34 and Paige Beers placing second at 26.01. Rylee Davis earned the Rams two points with her sixth-place finish at 27.67.

The Rams continued their big night in the pool in the 1-meter diving competition, with three Rams claiming the top three positions. Jessica Axtman placed first with 174.20, Paige Clauser second with 166.70, and Alexis Rose third with 142.35. Lexi Smith rounded out the Rams scoring, placing sixth with 135.60 points.

Lund claimed her third first of the night in the 100 Butterfly, touching the wall at 59.67. Gabrielle Shirley followed in second at 1:05.62., and Kyrra Morin landed sixth with a time of 1:16.48. Rockford landed the top four positions in the 100 Freestyle, with Gamm earning first with a time of 55.04. Glover (59.31), Ally Kinstle (59.57), and Fisher (1:01.27), followed in the next three spots, respectively. Kraus churned her way to victory in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:27.30, with teammates Prawdzik landing third at 5:50.91, Shirley placing fourth at 5:52.92, and Sophie Sampson landing seventh at 6:07.42.

The Rams claimed the second relay of the night, with Taylor Scott, Beers, Gamm, and Lund combining with a time of 1:41.36 to claim the 200 Freestyle Relay. The Rams landed four of the top seven spots in the 100 Backstroke. Folcik landed first with a time of 1:02.79, Adrianna Acala placed second at 1:10.12, and Faith Ten Eyck placed third at 1:11.39. Chloe LaPlante earned seventh clocking in at 1:18.55.

Grandville claimed plenty of points in the 11th and 12th events of the night, to make the scoring interesting, but when all the points were tallied the Rams were found to be the victors.
