The Rockford Riptide Swim Team swam extremely well at the TYR Holland Fall Invitational held at the Holland Community Aquatic Center, November 2-3.

Eighteen teams and 630 athletes from all over attended the two-day invitational. Thirteen swimmers in the 10 and under session and 36 in the 11 and over session from Riptide competed with the likes of Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics (MLA), East Grand Rapids Aquatics (EGRA), Badger Aquatics (BA) from Wisconsin, Crowne Oakland Live “Y”ers (OLY) and West Ottawa Swim Club (WOSC). Riptide swimmers had their work cut out for them with many of the teams being rested for the meet, but Riptide was up for the challenge.

The coaching staff was extremely pleased with the weekend which included 92 lifetime best times, and over 60 more season best times. Numerous State and Junior Olympic Qualifying times were achieved as well.

Winning events at the meet were Cambell Quijano (12), Jaime Forbes (13) and Qwintin Gordon (10). Finishing in the Top 3 in events were Addy Forbes (13), Zach Fisher (9), Samantha Fisher (9) and Devin Fisher (12).

“We knew going in to the meet, that many of the teams were resting for the meet, yet we deliberately pushed through this week, training hard,” said coach Terri Eudi. “When teams came to the pool with swimmers teched, it was like a switch flipped and our team just said, 'we’ve got this'. They picked up that energy, banded together and outswam the competition. Plain and simple, we swam 'Riptide Tough' this weekend.”

Outstanding performances were turned in by Bella Nole (13), Megan Unger (13), Liam Smith (16), Sylvia Rackiewicz (13) and Thomas Hurst (12). Other up and comers included Maddie St Charles (13), Lauren Kinstle (13), Alex Richardson (14) and Lincoln Shirley (12). Rounding out Riptide’s youngest standouts were Julia Zandstra (11), Will Glover (10), Courtney Jurmu (12), Owen Kutsche (12), Maggie Thompson (10) and Evan Pierce (11).

Riptide’s next meet takes place at home at the Rockford High School pool on November 23. Events start at 9 AM. Rockford Riptide is a local USA Swimming Team. For more information on Rockford Riptide and how to join, please go to our webpage www.riptide.com
