Rockford varsity returning skaters and 2019-20 roster candidates spent the spring, summer and fall participating in prep-league play, summer workouts, and continued ice-time in planning for tryouts the first week of November. After week-long tryouts and the roster solidified, the Rams headed straight into the grind with intense practices, laying the groundwork for the season ahead.
With the Rams graduating a significant portion of players at the end of the 2018-19 season, returning players are ready to step up in the 2019-20 action. Ryker Christian, Dayton Perroud, Tommy Schwandt, Mitchell Sehlmeyer, John Spero and Kyle Switzer are poised to set a solid foundation for an exciting season, along with the crowd of newcomers to the squad.
In pre-season play this past weekend, the Rams headed to Traverse City, for a 9-Team Scrimmage event. The Rams came away from the 4-game day with two wins, and two losses for a respectable pre-season showing.
Up next, the Rams will face off in a non-conference battle, Wednesday, Nov. 20, against always strong Grand Rapids Christian. They will also host their Home Opener and Student Night against a tough East Grand Rapids team, Saturday, Nov. 23. There will be tons of FREE stuff available for RHS students with ID, this includes FREE entrance, pizza, giveaways, T-shirts, and more! Puck drops at 7 p.m. at Griffs Ice House, the official home ice rink for your Rams, located at 30 Coldbrook St. NE., Grand Rapids.
