Izzy Brekke signed with Drury University for bowling, Saturday, Nov. 30.
Rockford Ram senior bowler Isabelle Brekke signed her National Letter of Intent, committing to Drury University at Rockford Lanes, Saturday, Nov.30. Isabelle will major in Business as she begins her academic career. A 4-year starter for the Rams, and with her final season about to begin in the next week, she made the official decision to attend the Springfield, Missouri NCAA Division II school. Women's bowling at the NCAA level combines division I, II, and III as a single competitive entity, and last season the national championship was claimed by in-conference rival McKendree University. Drury competes in the Great Lakes Valley conference, and is coached by Larry Hughes. Drury in only its fifth year as a program, is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation as it heads into the winter break.
Brekke and the Lady Rams open the high school season with a scrimmage against Kenowa Hills this Monday, Dec. 2, at Rockford Lanes. They will participate in their first tournaments on Saturday, Dec. 5 with the A team playing at Park Center Lanes and the B team at Eastbrook Lanes. The Rams will attempt to defend their OK Red Conference title, as well as make a return trip to the Division 1 state finals at Thunderbowl in Allen Park in March. Coaches Paul Bellgraph and Denny Porter are returning six of seven A team starters this year, so hopes are high going into the season. Bellgraph, the long-time boys coach for the Rams is leading the girls for the first time this season. Go Rams!
