The Ram varsity baseball team faced off on the diamond against West Ottawa for the second night in a row Wednesday, May 23, and earned a win to move their record to 23-8.
Rockford scored one run in the second, two in the third, and one in the fifth inning to claim the 4-0 victory. The Rams went 7-for-28 at the plate against two West Ottawa pitchers. The Rams scored their first run off of a Panther error, a couple of walks and a single by Cody Sterkenburg in the second inning. The third inning saw doubles by Khale Showers and Zach Schamp, a hit by pitch and a single by James Bird to score their two runs. In the fifth, the Rams were able to capitalize on a single by Schamp, and an RBI single by Bird to plate a run and move the score to 4-0.
Zach Marshall pitched the complete-game shutout, going seven innings and giving up two hits and one walk, while striking out three. Schamp led the hitting parade for the Rams, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. James Bird went 2-for-4 with an RBI to help pace Rockford. Jack McLean, Showers, and Sterkenburg each tallied a hit.
