The Rockford varsity baseball team played two games at the University Liggett Invitational Saturday, May 19. The Rams fell in the first game 8-0 to University Liggett, but bounced back in the second taking down Grosse Pointe South on the diamond by a 10-5 score. The Ram overall record stands at 20-8 on the season.
In the 8-0 loss, Ram pitcher Isaac Toole started the game going 4.1 innings and giving up six runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out one. Eric Zeboor came on the mound in relief, going 1.2 innings and giving up two runs on one hit and one walk, while striking out one. The Rams were only able to record two hits, with Jake McLean and Trey Herblet being the only two Rams to snag singles.
The second game found the Rams jumping out to a 4-3 lead at the end of the first and never giving up that lead for the game. Rockford plated their four runs off of hits from Herblet, Khale Showers, Zack Schamp, Logan Lee, and Jack Richardson in the top of the first. The Rams showed more offense in the top of the third, with Zach Marshall and Richardson drawing walks, and Paul Reinke and Luke McLean hitting singles to plate four more runs for the Rams. For the game, Rockford went 15-for-36 at the plate. Herblet went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jake McLean, Showers, Schamp, Reinke, and Luke McLean all went 2-for-4. Austin Englesman, Logan Lee and Richardson recorded a hit apiece. Reinke and Lee tallied two RBI each for the game.
