Thursday, May 17, found the Rockford varsity baseball team reclaiming one of the games they dropped to the Buccaneers on the diamond Tuesday. It took the Rams until the seventh inning to claim the game 5-2, successfully moving their overall record to 19-7 on the season.
Grand Haven scored one run in the first and one in the second inning to move to a 2-0 lead that they held on to until the top of the seventh, when Rockford pushed five runs across the plate. Rockford only had two hits on the night, but they were big ones. Jake Engelkes started the seventh inning off with walk, and was followed by an RBI double by Zach Marshall. Jack Richardson earned first on an error and Alex Miller moved him to second when he walked. Trey Helbert came up to bat in and hit a base-clearing double to tally three RBI, and move the score from a 2-2 tie to a 5-2 lead. Marshall, who pitched all seven innings, closed down the Grand Haven bats in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win for the Rams. For the game, Marshall gave up two runs on five hits and two walks, while fanning four.
