GRAND RAPIDS – The Rockford Rams boys varsity basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids to take on Union in their second game of the season. The Rams overcame a four-point fourth quarter deficit, and snagged a hard fought 46-41 road win. Rockford’s record now moves to 2-0 on the season, with a season kick-off 44-26 Fwin over East Grand Rapids on Friday, Nov. 30.
“Our defense tonight, was once again really solid,” said head coach Kyle Clough. “That is a very explosive team offensively and to hold them to 41 points is a testament to our guys and their commitment on the defensive end. More importantly, I was just so proud of the way we battled through adversity.
The Rams were led by Nate Bareno’s 19 points and 8 rebounds, Sam Krist’s 13 points, and Ashton Pokorzynski chipped in with 9 points. Kaden Seelye also gave some huge minutes off the bench and delivered a knock-out three-pointer late in the game.
"This team proved tonight that they can play through a little scoring drought and a bad call or two,” said Clough. “They kept their belief in one another and made some big-time winning plays down the stretch.”
Rams are off this Friday and back in action next Tuesday, Dec. 11, when they host Spring Lake for a triple header.
