Rams Tie with Panthers

CALEDONIA – The Rams girls cross country team competed in their first OK Red Conference Jamboree, Tuesday, Sept. 18, and had an impressive showing in both the varsity and JV divisions.

The Rams varsity ended in a 57-57 tie with West Ottawa, with the Panthers able to claim first after calculating where individuals placed. Grand Haven claimed third with 69 points, just edging out Caledonia, who tallied 70 points and landed in fourth. Hudsonville placed fifth with 86 points, Grandville, sixth with 179, and East Kentwood placed seventh with 198 points.

Rockford was led by senior Ericka VanderLende, who finished first in the meet, clocking in at 18:11.5. Also, in the top 10 for the Rams was Emma Everhart-Deckard, who placed eighth, timing in at 19:56.5, just edging out Hudsonville’s Elise Gray, who clocked in at 19:56.6. Lexie Allshouse placed 13th with a time of 20:36.2, and freshman Bailey Ewen landed 15th, clocking in at 20:48.9. Karlie Gardner placed 20th for the Rams, with a time of 21:05.2.

Other finishes for the Rams were 34. Carly Maynard 21:54.5, 39. Elizabeth Bennet 22:04.8, 41. Sophia Ullery 22:13.5, 46. Elise VanStensel 22:26.3, and 49. Riley Thompson 22:30.1.

In the JV division, Grand Haven claimed first with 31 points, followed by Rockford, who tallied 61 points. Caledonia placed third with 75 points, and Hudsonville rounded out the top four with 100 points. West Ottawa landed fifth with 104 points, Grandville placed sixth with 174, and East Kentwood landed seventh with 217.

Mara Sweeney led the Rams with a time of 22:28, and a eighth place finish. Allison Everhart-Deckard placed 10th with a time of 22:32.3. Also placing in the top 20 were Hailey Fike in 13th with a time of 22:39.1, Grace Vandrwiel in 14th with a time of 22:39.7, and Chloe Collings in 16th with a time of 22:56.4.

Other finishes for the Rams were: 23. Lauren Kellner 23:24.9, 24. Lilly Weirich 23:34, 30. Jordan Duvall 23:52.8, 31. Emily Danks 23:59.3, 36. Rosie VanLuven 24:13, 39. Katie Host 24:16.4, 41. Grace Flanders 24:24.1, 42. Silvia Tonelli 24:24.2, 49. Anna Dudka 24:42.9, 53. Scarlet Beachy 24:46.5, 69. Guin Waite 25:23.2, 76. Marta Navarro 25:50.8, 85. Madelyn O’Malley 26:19.6, 87. Ruth Kauffman 26:30.5.

Next up for the Rams is the Allendale Falcon Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 29.
