The Rockford varsity divers entered the MHSAA D1 Regional competition at Hudsonville, Wednesday, November 7 in hopes to advance to the state finals. Forty divers fought fiercely for the top 10 spots to be able to move onto the state meet. Rockford’s senior Elise Jendritz and sophomore Jessica Axtman were amongst the competitors.
After the first five dives, cuts were made down to the top 25 divers. Axtman took 30th, just missing semifinals by five spots. Jendritz advanced to the semi-finals, where she had to perform three more dives. After this round, another cut was made to the top 16. Jendritz was amongst the top and continued to the finals hovering in the top three spots of the competition.
The competition was grueling. Some of the top state divers were in Rockford’s region. The final round demanded three more dives, making a total of 11 dives for each of the top 16 divers. Jendritz performed her last three dives beautifully and claimed second place. She will advance to the MHSAA State Finals competition, November 16th-17th.
Good luck next week at state to Rockford’s diver and swimmers! Go Rams!
