GRAND RAPIDS – The Rams varsity volleyball team travelled, Monday, Oct. 29, and took on Forest Hills Northern in the first round of MHSAA D1 District 12 action. The Rams mowed down their opponent in three sets. Rockford dominated in the first set in quick order, winning 25-14. The second set was a different matter, as the game even went an extra point in order for the Rams to claim the 26-24 victory. Rockford found their legs and rhythm in the third, topping FHN by a score of 25-22.
Leading the Rams at the net were three seniors. Lindsay Taylor tallied 18 kills, l ace, 1 block and 11 digs, Emmy Webb had 12 kills, 1 ace, 1 block and 7 digs, and Alyssa Judge registered 5 kills and 6 digs. Senior setter Emilee Karelse also had a big night, tallying 33 assists, 2 aces, and 5 digs. Madelyn Long led the team on defense, recording an impressive 14 digs, and notching 3 aces.
The Rams will continue with district action in Lowell, Tuesday, Oct. 30, when they face off against Greenville for the semifinals. The match begins at 5:30 p.m. Lowell will take on Northview in the second semifinal of the evening at approximately 7 p.m. The finals are scheduled in Lowell for Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m., with the district winner moving on to play in the MHSAA D1 Regional 3.
