Rams Finish 3rd in State

Men’s Rock Polo officially ended a successful 2018 season last week with a banquet honoring players, coaches, managers and their families. Everyone gathered to eat and celebrate. Each of the four coaches spoke and presented players and managers. This years’ coaches were John Haga (Head Coach), Craig Peterman (JV Head Coach) and Alex Savage and Dave McWatters (Assistant Coaches).

The varsity squad ended with a 37-7 record and Junior Varsity’s record was 20-8-3. In addition, the varsity placed first in regular season, first place at the district tournament, second place at Michigan Water Polo Association West Regionals, and third place in MWPA State Tournament falling to the state champion Okemos Chieftains.

Several players were presented individual awards. Kyle Arend, Zach Burns, Elijah Chino, Gavin Saur and Ben Schuchardt (Honorable Mention) all received All-Conference. These five young men were also team captains for the year.

All-Region Season winners were; Zach Burns and Gavin Saur (1st Team), Kyle Arend (2nd Team) and Elijah Chino and Ben Schuchadt (HM). All Region Tournament honors were received by Burns (1st Team) while Arend, Chino, Saur and Schuchardt all were awarded 2nd Team honors.

All-State Season awards were given to Burns (1st), Saur (1st) and Arend (HM). All State Tournament awards were given to Burns (1st), Chino (2nd), Saur (2nd) and Arend (HM).

An impressive number (15) of players were award Academic All-State Honors. These players were Kyle Arend, Drew Bargwell, Zach Burns, Brendan Chaudoir, Kyle Dedert, Cade Dorer, Nolan Graalman, Nate Hopkins, Bode Mitchell, Samual Radtke, Brenden Saur, Ben Schuchardt, Hudson VerWys, Matthew Weber and Trey Williams.

Twenty-one players received their Varsity letter: Kyle Arend, Zach Burns, Gavin Saur, Brendan Chaudoir, Elijah Chino, Kyle Dedert, Nick Deugaw, Boede Mitchell, Sam Radtke, Ben Schuchardt, Matthew Weber, Trey William, Drew Bargwell, Cade Dorer, Nolan Graalman, Logan Harris, Nate Hopkins, Brnden Saur, Hudson Verwys, Nate Cheney, and Christian Wagen.

Team Awards were given by the coaches to Zach Burns (Most Valuable), Elijah Chino (Most Improved) and Gavin Saur (Ram Pride).

The three seniors - Kyle Arend, Zach Burns and Gavin Saur - leave a legacy of sportsmanship, teamwork and high level play. Their strong leadership was key to this years’ achievements. The team thanks them and wishes them well in all their future endeavors.
