ROCKFORD – The Rockford Krush 11U – Shanahan team had a busy weekend, July 20-22 when the hosted their annual Rockford Krush Summer Slam Tournament. Krush went 2-1 in Pool Play and worked their way through bracket play to claim second place.
On Friday, Krush went up against Mt. Pleasant in their first pool game and claimed a decisive 13-0 victory. Krush found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-3 score against Traverse City Thunder to move their record to 1-1. In their final pool game, Krush came up against West Michigan Venom and topped them 7-4 to move their record to 2-1. The Sabercats went a perfect 3-0 to claim pool play.
Krush earned a second seed, so rested up to for bracket play. They faced off against Grand Rapids Blaze after they topped West Michigan Venom 11-2. Krush jumped out early, plating one run in the first inning, three in the second and two in the fourth to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Blaze was only able to muster one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to move the final score to 6-1.
In the finals, Krush scored first, plating a run in the top of the second inning to claim the lead 1-0. Sabercats had some potent bats, however, answering with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third to move the score to 3-1. Krush was able to reel them in during the top of the fifth, plating a run and moving the score to 3-2, but that was the closest Krush could come. The Sabercats were on fire in the bottom of the inning, pushing six runs over the plate to claim the 9-2 victory.
Congratulations to the Krush team for claiming runner-up in the Rockford Krush Summer Slam Tournament, and for running such an impressive tournament.
