Rising Starz Gymnastics put on another show at the 2018 Michigan Xcel State Meet, claiming team titles in three of the four divisions - Xcel Silver, Gold and Diamond. Held March 23-25 at DeVos Place Convention Center in downtown Grand Rapids, the open event hosts all of the Xcel-level gymnasts in the Mitten State.

This group of athletes at Rising Starz continues to amaze me," said coach Sarah Gross emphatically. "Not only are they fierce, strong, confident young ladies, but they are amazing teammates and competitors."

In the Silver division, Rising Starz put up an impressive 115.200 overall score, finishing .400 ahead of second place West Bloomfield. The Gold squad was a tick higher with a 115.250 overall, outpacing Splitz Gymnastics at 114.525. In the Diamond division, the team left no doubt finishing a full 2.650 points ahead of second place Hunts Gymnastics. It was almost a sweep, however the Platiunum team was just behind first place West Bloomfield 113.725 to 113.400.

Individually, the gym had 13 State All-Around Champions and qualified 79 athletes for regionals in Westfield, IN. In fact, 12 Rising Starz gymnasts scored so well they qualified to compete on the state team, representing Michigan against the other state teams in Region 5 - Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. The highest 16 scores in each division qualify for the state team, with 1-8 making up the A team and 9-16 the B.

"As a coach it's amazing to watch all the victories they all individually accomplish, but to watch them support each other, other teams and athletes is what reminds me of our main goals as a program," Gross added. "Athletics should always be more than the sport played. Coaches wear multiple hats and although these moments of victory, championships and champion athletes are pretty incredible, the best part is watching the amazing people they become. I will always be grateful for that."
