The big dual meet of the day was against Sparta High School, Sparta topped Otsego 57-24 and Portage Northern 57-21, looking strong on the mats. Rockford dominated them from the beginning of the match, and never looked back, downing the Spartans 51-18.. Rockford rolled over their competition, with an average score of 63-11 for all five of their matches. The wins move Rockford’s record to 14-1 on the season.

“I thought our team wrestled as good as they have so far in this season,” said Rockford head coach Brian Richardson. “I was particularly impressed with Connor White (145), who turned around a loss (against Sparta opponent from two weeks ago,” Richardson said. “Brysonn Aulbach (103), dominated his opponent and is really getting better every time he hits the mat. I also thought Ashton Halland (119), started wrestling to his full potential and it is fun to watch his confidence grow with every match.”

Rockford had many wrestlers go undefeated besides Aulbach and Halland. Also going undefeated on the day were Trenton Wachter (135) - keeping his record perfect on the season at 18-0, Jack Tadych (135), Evan Kaser (140), Jack Richardson (152), Cole Gleason (171), Tyler Waterstrat (189), and Jacob Slabaugh (189/215).

“Although many wrestlers went undefeated, or suffered only a single loss, I was most pleased with the way some of our wrestlers who had been struggling showed improvement and toughness,” continued Richardson. “That is what I’m really interested in seeing from the guys, growth and improvement.”

Next up for the Rams is a Quad at Grand Haven, Thursday, Jan. 3. The JV team hits the mats at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5:30 p.m.
