Rams Tally 204 Points to Claim Regional Crown

The Ram girls track team dominated the competition in the MHSAA Division 1 Regional 1, Saturday, May 18, at Grand Haven High School. The Rams tallied an incredible 204 points to claim the regional crown, placing in every event. The Rams claimed 10 first places in the 13 events to earn the honor.

Rockford amassed 204 points to claim the title. They were followed by: 2. (T) Hudsonville and Grand Haven (85), 4. Forest Hills Norther (38), 5. (T) St. Joseph and West Ottawa (33), 7. Ottawa Hills (32), 8. Mona Shores (29), 9. Jenison (28) 10. Grandville (27), 11. Wyoming (24), 12. (T)  Reeths-Puffer and Holland (13), 14. Greenville (8), 15. GR Union (4), 16. (T) Forest Hills Central and Northview (3).

Rockford’s Jillian Roney, Taylor Korytkowski, and Ericka VanderLende, all earned individual regional titles. The Rams also swept all the relay events on the day.

Roney and Taylor Korytkowski had a huge day, placing first in all four of their events. Roney claimed first in the 100m dash with a time of 12.59, the 300m hurdles, with a time of 45.99, and was the anchor in the winning 4X100 and 4X200 relay teams. Taylor Korytkowski earned regional titles in the 200m dash with a time of 25.46, and the 400m dash with a time of 58.98. She was also part of the winning 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams. VanderLende claimed firsts in the 1600m run with a time of 4:45.85 and the 3200m run with a time of 10:29.10, and was part of the first place 4X800 relay team.

Other Rams earning points in individual track events were: 100m 3. Grace Gohl 12.83; 200m 2. Grace Gohl 25.75, 4. Abby Nash 26.24, 7. Valencia Goldsmith 27.42; 400m 6. Riley Thompson 1:03.64; 800m 5. Karlie Gardner 2:19.91, 6. Caliegh Dunn 2:23.44; 1600m 3. Camryn Gabriel 5:06.13 (6 points), 4. Emma Everhart-Deckard 5:19.39;

3200m 4. Camryn Gabriel 11:35.94, 6. Emma Everhart-Deckard; 100m hurdles 2. Peyton Korytkowski 15.63 (8 points), 6. Natalie Huls 16.16; 300m hurdles 5. Peyton Korytkowski 48.25.

The relay teams all claimed firsts. The 4X100 team was comprised of  Velencia Goldsmith, Casey Lenon, Abby Nash, and Jillian Roney and timed in at 49.34. The 4X200 team of Taylor Korytkowski, Casey Lenon, Abby Nash and Jillian Roney clocked in at 1:42.41. The 4X400 team of Casey Lenon, Karlie Gardner, Peyton Korytkowski, and Taylor Korytkowski clocked in at 4:00.64. The 4X800 team of Camryn Gabriel, Caleigh Dunn, Karlie Gardner, and Ericka VanderLende timed in at 9:23.32.

In the field events, Morgan Vargo placed second in the long jump with a leap of 16’10”, Casey Lenon placed third in the high jump clearing the bar at 5’2”, and in the pole vault Morgan Vargo placed fifth (9/6”), Reagan Ammon placed sixth (9’3”) and Brianna Haverkamp placed seventh (9’3”).  Natalie Clum placed third in the discus with a toss of 102’, and in the shot put Danielle Cole placed fourth with a throw of 34’7.5”, 7. Natalie Clum placed seventh with a throw of 33’8” and Breanna Haverkamp placed eighth.
