Head boys bowling coach Paul Bellgraph enters his 17th year leading the Rockford High School bowling program and brings a 123-58-7 record with him. He has a healthy roster of three seniors, three juniors, five sophomores, and three freshmen, so the future looks healthy and bright with a good foundation to build on.
But, Bellgraph’s roster also shows some youth that he feels could be an issue.
“The lack of experience could be the big question mark,” he said. “We have a good core coming back and should be okay, but we only have two guys with a lot of experience.”
The team lost Shawn Simon to graduation last year, but he definitely has some talent in his arsenal. One of those weapons is defending D1 State Singles Champion Matt Buck. He claimed the state title last year by defeating Detroit U-D Jesuit’s Ryan Reid 397-370 in the title match.
The roster also includes returners Trey Laven, Chris Gutowsky, Jackson Miller, and Sebastain Tramper. Bellgraph points to key newcomer Calab Mask as a welcome addition to his roster.
Assistant coach Brandon Engstrom will be on the lanes to help Bellgraph guide the team during the season.
Bellgraph put it simply on what he expects out of his team.
“If we work together we can beat anyone.”
