The Rockford boys cross country team picked the perfect time to peak in their sport, earning a second place in the OK Red, and then topping off their performance with a third-place finish at the MHSAA LP D1 Regional 1, Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Rams tallied 69 points – just two points behind regional runner-up Forest Hill Central’s 67. The Grand Haven Buccaneers had a big day, tallying just 45 points to claim the regional crown.
In the regional competition, senior Jack Grimm led the Rams placing second with a season record time of 16:09.78. Sophomore Jude Parks landed 9th, clocking in at 16:32.05, junior Ian Cook placed 16th with a time of 16:44.97, junior Jacob Majoor placed 22nd with a time of 17:03.81, and freshman Alex Fahey placed 24th with a time of 17:04.66.
Also placing for the Rams were Nick Forrest in 29th with a time of 17:30.60, and Kyle Sweeney in 31st with a time of 17:16.57.
Just a week earlier, Rockford had claimed second place in the OK Red Conference. Grimm also led the team’s charge in that meet, clocking in at 16:22.2. He was followed by sophomore Jude Parks, who landed fifth, with a time of 16:30.5. Ian Cook placed 14th, timing in at 16:41.7, and Jacob Majoor landed 20th, with a time of 16:59. Placing 26th for the Rams was Kyle Sweeney, who finished with a time of 17:22.3. Also placing for the Rams were Nick Forrest who landed 29th with a time of 17.26.1, and Alex Fahey, who placed 31st, with a time of 17:27.4.
“The guys were gritty and it showed,” said head coach Andy Martin after the conference event.. “This is a young squad that is finding its identity at the right time of the season.”
