ROCKFORD – The girls varsity basketball team notched three wins in a row with a 55-33 victory over Caledonia, Saturday, Feb. 9. With the victory, the Lady Rams moved their record to 11-3, and bumped their OK Red record to 6-1. The event was the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game.
“The girls were honored to play in this game, and help raise money for cancer research,” said Ram head coach Brad Wilson. “We jumped out to a good lead early and never looked back. Every girl had a positive contribution, and it was a complete group effort.”
The Rams started off hot, burning to an 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, and closed the half with a 31-15 lead. The Rams’ defense showed complete dominance in the third, holding Caledonia to just four points, leading 43-19 at the end of the third stanza. At the final buzzer, the Lady Rams held a 55-33 edge to close out the game and earn the victory.
Madi Kleefisch paced the Rams on the court with 13 points. Alina Anderson and Maddie Hutchings helped the Ram cause with 7 points apiece.
“I’m very proud of our team,” concluded Wilson. “We are now 11-3, and tied for first place with Grand Haven and East Kentwood, and we play both of those teams this week. The girls hope to finish strong and bring home the hardware!”
The team takes on Grand Haven Tuesday night, Feb. 12, and then faces off against East Kentwood Friday, Feb. 15. Both games are at home, with Tuesday’s game beginning at 7 p.m. and Friday’s slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
