Falcons Down Ram Swim & Dive Team

KENTWOOD – The Rockford High School swim & dive team traveled to East Kentwood to take on the Falcons in a conference meet, Tuesday, Feb. 5. The Rams fell to the Falcons 190-125, but earned three firsts, five seconds and three thirds on the night.

Ram Conner Dedert lit up the pool with two first-place finishes, earning 16 points for Rockford, while Zach Burns pulled in 14 points.

Burns claimed second in the 200 freestyle, clocking in at 1:52.98, with Logan Lovall landing fourth with a 1:58.02, and Ben Schuchardt earning a fifth with a 1:59.07. In the 200 IM, Ram Matthew Weber earned fourth place at 2:16.84, Trey Williams earned fifth with a time of 2:22.15, and Gavin Saur pulled in sixth with a time of 2:24.52. Conner Dedert smoked the competition in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall at 22.28 to earn first. Dwight Hua placed third with a time of 24.05, and Christian Wagen placed fifth at 24.71.

Diver Josh Vickery placed first with 218.90 points off the 1-meter board, Austin Hintz claimed fourth with 200.40, and Ben Giera landed fifth with 199.30.

In the 100 butterfly, the Rams went fourth, fifth and sixth, with Nathan Hopkins, Elijah Chino and Gavin Saur finishing respectively. Conner Dedert earned his second first place of the night in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall at 49.41. Ram Nate Cheney earned fourth with a time of 54.51. The 500 freestyle saw Logan Lovall earn third with a 5:24.70, while teammate Matthew Weber placed fifth, clocking in at 5:34.50.

Burns claimed the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.40, while Schuchardt landed fourth with a time of 1:01.42, and Kyle Dedert earned fifth 1:03.38. Dwight Hua earned third place in the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:06.94, followed by Chino in fifth with a time of 1:10.14, and Christian Wagen in sixth, with a time of 1:11.46.

Next up for the Rams, is a meet against Hudsonville, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 7, weather permitting.
