ROCKFORD – The Rockford High School Competitive Cheer Team had a big day, Saturday, Jan. 19, earning a second place in their annual invitational. The Rams placed behind the Hudsonville Eagles in the event. The Eagles earned 769.38 total points on the day to earn the title, while the Rams tallied 714.84 to claim second. West Ottawa placed third, Portage Northern earned fourth, and Grand Ledge placed fifth.
Rockford had a clean day with both their opening rounds, earning a 225.0 in Round 1, and 205.94 in Round 2 to post their total points. They were solidly in second place with 430.94 points heading into Round 3. Hudsonville owned first with 459.58 points. The Rams enjoyed a penalty-free Round 3 to earn 283.90 from the three judges and landed second in the competition in Pool A with a total of 714.84 points.
Mona Shores claimed Pool B with a total of 765.46. Byron Center placed second, and Lowell finished third. Northview landed fourth and Zeeland East place fifth to round out the finishes.
